Nose

Subtle hints of meat spice and char linger above bold aromas glazed cherries, spiced plums and mulberry jam.

Palate

Rich opulent tannins introduce a palate layered with tones of dark chocolate, cassis and freshly cracked allspice. The finish is fleshy and elegant, boasting hints of vanilla bean, roasted coffee and a lingering blueberry tartness. This wine is fresh and vibrant when young, majestic and rewarding when aged.

Growing Conditions

The fruit is from our small vineyard in the Margaret River region of Western Australia which is established on Treeton loam soils and receives cooling breezes from the Indian Ocean. This single estate vineyard in Rosa Glen has nearly 1ha of 30 year old, dry farmed vines on close trellising. Obsessive care and individual nurturing commences with hand pruning, followed by leaf removal in December to improve ripening. Following the hand harvest, manual sorting ensures the selection of only the best fruit. A cooler lead up to Christmas put the vines in good stead for the following hotter months. Lower than expected post-Christmas rainfall resulted in lower vigour and disease pressure, contributing to better canopy form and microclimate. Hot and consistent conditions for the remainder of the season further contributed to low disease pressure and even ripening, exhibited by ideal varietal expression. Just over 8 tonnes of uniformly good quality fruit was hand harvested and hand sorted on 12th April.
