Nose
Frames aromas of nashy pear skins, quince and passionfruit with hints of rose petal. The wild ferment and subtle oak integration in French Barriques for a smaller portion of the Chenin, adds an exotic spice complexity.
Palate
This wine is about texture, mouth feel, and layers of flavour. Luscious ripe pear layered on compote of fresh quince, apricot, tangerine and honeydew. With the subtle oak spice and vanillin adding an intriguing complexity and soft, round finish.
Growing Conditions
The superb Chenin Blanc fruit was sourced from a single block planting in the super-premium Willyabrup sub-region. Selected rows from the western end of the vineyard
Winemaking
Hand harvested in the cool of the early evening and immediately transported to the nearby winery for sorting, de-stemming and crushing. A ‘wild ferment’ followed, with a smaller 18% portion of the juice being barrel fermented in 2-3 year old French oak barriques for a further six months before blending back, just prior to bottling. Creating a savoury oak presence and a sublime texture, complexity and finish without overpowering the purity of the exceptional Chenin fruit. One for the Chenin purists.
