Nose

Complex and earthy with nettle aromas and some bready overlay. Immediately engaging and different, offering complexity and intrigue.

Palate

Complex and savoury with some flint; textured and sour creamy. Fine and rich middle palate leading to a fine tangy finish.

Growing Conditions

The 2017 vintage was a cool weather -wise and quite late. It has been a very good year for whites. Flavours are at the aromatic / vegetal end of the spectrum together with some refreshing acidity. As it would happen, and despite some well justified concerns during the middle of the vintage , we were subjected to a long Indian summer after Easter, seeing reds ripen fully.

Harvest

Hand-picked.

Winemaking

Hand-picked fruit was chilled overnight and whole bunch pressed and the resultant unclarified juice was allowed to ferment completely naturally with the only intervention being temperature control of the ferment. A light oak treatment together with some aging on gross lees in stainless steel. No sulphur was added whatsoever until the wine was prepared for bottling.

Appearance

Very pale green.

Food Pairing

Shortbreads at one end, cheddar on the other.
