Nose

Fruit aromas of peach, lemon & lime, are enhanced by oak-derived cinnamon spice & hazelnut notes, & subtle smokey-flinty lees characters

Palate

Restrained with underlying power. Citrus, nougat, spice & savoury notes show breadth, depth & great length of flavour. Tightly wound & driven by fine grapefruit acidity

Growing Conditions

The season was preceded by a wet winter & spring, the driest November since 1999 - so there were no issues around flowering or fruit set - & then the wettest December since 1996. This was followed by a long, dry Indian summer, with maximum temperatures mirroring the long-term average

Harvest

100% Gingin, selectively hand-picked in small batches from the property on 24th February & 1st March 2018 at 12.0° & 12.6° Bé respectively. The Karridale vineyard is sustainably famed following organic principles

Bottling

The wine was bottled on 15th January 2019

Winemaking

Gently whole-bunch-pressed directly to barrel using indigenous yeasts. Early stirring of the lees was undertaken to enhance mouthfeel. The wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation.

Aging

10 months maturation followed in French barriques, of which 40% were new

Appearance

Pale straw with green hues

Food Pairing

Seared tuna
