Nose
A complex display of dark plum, black berries, forest fruits, mocha, and
sweet toasty spice upfront. Subtle hints of aniseed, red cherry and
granite flint adds an extra depth of complexity.
Palate
Medium to full bodied with rich, fleshy dark berry, mulberry and sweet
plum flavours fill the palate followed by a succulent, rich but fine
tannin structure. Sweet toasty spice and delicate fruit persist endlessly
with a hint of dark chocolate on the finish
Growing Conditions
The 2015/16 growing season was characterised by moderate rainfall in
winter with mild/warm conditions followed by a dry and warm spring.
Vine growth was rapid throughout the season and most phenological
markers were reached ahead of expectations due to warm temperatures
and a dry soil profile. Summer was typically warm/hot with
consistently cool night-time temperatures and a major rainfall event
mid-January around veraison.
Winemaking
The fruit was gently machine harvested and processed into red
fermenters where they are tenderly pumped over three times a day
during fermentation to maximize colour extraction. Gentle handling of
the fruit and wine ensures varietal character and freshness is
maintained.
Appearance
Medium dark red with a youthful purple edge.
