Nose
Aromas of ripe plums, red berry fruits and
spicy oak.
Palate
Fruits of the forest flavours, plum and
blackcurrent with dry plush tannins. A
warming soft and silky mouthfeel, with a
generous finish.
Harvest
The 2013 Merlot was harvested on the 29th March 2013 from
vines cropping at 2.5 tonne per acre.
Winemaking
Picked just after first light the
grapes were taken directly to the winery for processing. Rollers
were spaced wide to allow some berries to stay intact. The grapes
were crushed to upright static fermenters and inoculated for
primary fermentation. The fermenter was drained and pressed
after 16 days skin contact. Following eighteen months of French
oak maturation (20% new oak) the wine was blended, lightly fined
and filtered prior to bottling.
Aging
Five to ten years.
Appearance
Plum, red.
