Deep Woods Estate

Andrew joined Deep Woods Estate as Senior Winemaker in 2017 after nearly a decade of incredible vintage experiences around the world. He began his winemaking career in 2008 after completing his Oenology degree and then focused on making premium wines that reflect their regionality.

Andrew has previously worked in the Adelaide Hills and Yarra Valley, and completed international vintages in Mosel, Germany; Burgundy, France; and Chianti Classico, Italy. He aspires to represent the uniqueness of the Deep Woods Estate site and make characterful, delicious, world-class wines.

Emma joined the Deep Woods team as a cellar hand in 2015 and was appointed Assistant Winemaker that same year. Emma began her winemaking career in 2011 after completing a Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology at Curtin University. She then gained experience in the United States working for a high-end small-batch producer. In 2017 Emma was appointed Operations Manager.

Emma is also making her name in the local judging scene and has been involved with the Perth Royal Wine Awards since 2016 where she has completed three years as an associate judge and two years as a senior judge. In 2020 she accepted the role of senior judge at the Wine Show of Western Australia.

John has been the Chief Viticulturist since 2002, overseeing the management of the premium vineyards in Western Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, and sourcing fruit from select growers. John’s interest in planting and training young vines is coupled with an ardent focus on sustainability and innovation. He is constantly looking at ways to increase fruit quality to ensure the Group’s winemakers can create the best wines possible. John has completed multiple degrees in viticulture and has an unmatched knowledge of each vineyard site.

John and Julian make a formidable team at Deep Woods Estate and at the same time enjoy a great friendship with their young families.

Julian is regarded as one of the most talented winemakers in Australia with awards such as James Halliday Winemaker of the Year, Jimmy Watson Trophy winner, Ray Jordan Winemaker of the Year, and a Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year nominee. His impressive career has included vintages in France and Canada, as well as senior winemaking roles in the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and Coonawarra.

Passionate about producing regionally distinctive wines, Julian joined the Deep Woods team in 2011. Under his leadership, the winemaking team has continued to refine and explore the Deep Woods style, culminating in more than 60 trophies and 200 gold medals awarded across major national and international wine shows.
