Nose

The bouquet shows a violet scented floral lift from the carbonic maceration with ripe raspberry and blueberry fruits and background smokey oak

Palate

Medium-bodied in weight, soft, juicy and succulent. Blueberry and re currant flavours vie with a suggestion of raspberry confectionary. Acidity and tannin are in harmony with the oak and the finish is impressively long.

Growing Conditions

Average rains over winter & spring but cool cloudy conditions caused reduced fruit set in some varieties. Summer was warm with no heat spikes and was very dry, perfect for berry development. Heavy cropping on some varieties necessitated bunch dropping to achieve full ripeness. Cooler conditions later in summer extended the ripening period

Harvest

The fruit was harvested in two picks, the first on 3rd April 2023 at 12.6° Bé, the second on 15th April 2023 at 12.5° Bé (both from a single block)

Bottling

Bottled on 3rd November 2023

Winemaking

In total, 33% of the wine was put through carbonic maceration. The first parcel underwent carbonic maceration for 14 days, and was then destemmed, inoculate with yeast, and fermented on skins for 7 days. The second parcel was crushed to an open fermenter, inoculated and pumped over twice a day for nine days. The wine was not fined, and is vegan friendly

Aging

Barrel maturation took place for 6 months in neutral, large format French oak.

Appearance

Vibrant and bright purple in colour.

Food Pairing

Excellent with beef daube Provencal with orange and olives, or Spaghetti alla Puttanesca

Higher Plane 'Led Astray' Fumé Blanc Bottle Preview
Higher Plane'Led Astray' Fumé Blanc

Normally pristine Sauvignon Blanc that has had its hair ruffled and has been caught up with the wrong winemaker. The fruit has had a run-in with some new French oak and barrel stirring to create a wine that is not the Sauvignon Blanc you once knew! Crisp, textured & complex.

Higher Plane 'Three's Company' Field Blend Bottle Preview
Higher Plane'Three's Company' Field Blend

A riff on ‘Two’s company, Three’s a crowd’. Three’s Company proves the exception to the rule – creating harmony between three varieties very different in heritage and style. Floral Fiano hailing from Italy, rich Verdejo from Spain and zesty Sauvignon Blanc via France, now all together in our beautiful Karridale vineyard. A lively, tangy, zesty wine.
