Nose
Rich & inviting nose of bramble fruits, violets, and tobacco leaf with notes of choc mint.
Palate
A full and juicy palate with cherry, blueberry, blackcurrant, and hints of candied violets. Fine tannin and bright acidity provide structure and length to this generous, fruit driven wine.
Growing Conditions
2020 was a warm and dry vintage, however a wetter than average winter set us up well for this. The growing season started off with a warm spring followed by a hot summer, we did get one significant rain event late February, which slowed down the reds and allowed for ripening of tannin and flavour to catch up with sugars. The warm and dry conditions reduced disease pressure, and we had ample marri blossom around the district, so we didn't have the bird pressure of 2019.
Harvest
Yields were low across the board, but on the upside, this resulted in excellent quality with concentration of flavour across all varieties.
Winemaking
Each variety was harvest separately at optimum ripeness and transported directly to the winery. The fruit was destemmed, crushed, and transferred to fermenters. A variety of fermentation vessels were used - static fermenters which were pumped over twice daily, and open fermenters which were plunged. Once the various batches had reached the optimum time on skins they were pressed off. Post fermentation the wine was transferred to a variety of vessels for maturation. After 18 months maturation the wine was blended, filtered, and bottled.
Appearance
This wine is dark red in colour with a scarlet hue.
