Growing Conditions
For our Small World blend, we are able to focus on the best expression of two very different but complementary varieties, selected in some of the state’s best vineyards. In 2020, we focus on the Great Southern to provide us with a deep but intensely fruity Shiraz, most dry grown in excellent, low yielding conditions. The Cabernet was primarily sourced from the Geographe area, where Cabernet can fully ripen to develop silky friendly tannins.
Harvest
Harvest 2020 was ideal for red winemaking across the state, dry and mild, without any weather pressure and we were able to pick each parcel at its best potential.
Winemaking
Each parcel of fruit is fermented separately with daily tasting to best tailor the extraction and length of time on skins. After the primary fermentation is complete, the wines are pressed then matured in contact with French and Hungarian oak to suit each parcel, for a period of 9 to 15 months depending on winemakers’ tastings. The blend is assembled after individual assessment of each batch to ensure this typically Australian blend displays the best characteristics of its varieties.
