Nose

It has a lovely bouquet of white peach and pear with hints of honey and nougat.

Palate

The palate is soft with fresh tropical fruit flavours, finishing with citrus and chalky minerality.

Growing Conditions

As with every vintage, challenges arise from mother nature. Difficult weather conditions during the ripening period were overcome with lots of hard work and attention in the vineyards to ensure pristine fruit was delivered to the winery. A slow start to vintage, 3-4 weeks later than the previous few years, has meant a later finish which finally ended for us the first week of May. Due to the slow and extended ripening period we have seen some beautifully balances wines. The Whites are light and fresh with great natural acidity. Overall, we are extremely happy with the wines from the 2017 vintage. They all have great balance and elegance.

Winemaking

All three parcels were hand picked on the same day and chilled overnight. The following day the grapes were tipped as whole bunches directly into our press and gently pressed off into a tank. Natural settling occurred overnight and the cloudy juice was then sent to French oak barrels twenty four hours later. Wild fermentation was completed in barrel and allowed to mature on its own lees for nine months, with minimal stirring during this time, to maintain freshness and natural acidity. This Chardonnay is 100% wild fermented and matured in French oak for nine months.
