Growing Conditions

The 2017 growing season was a stressful
one as a grapegrower. Persistent strong winds in October affected
flower development and meant we saw some reduced yields in early
flowering varieties such as Malbec and Merlot.

Winemaking

The benefit of this was
that with lower yields we amassed amazing fruit concentration and
weight allowing us to produce red of both power and refinement. All 3
components were fermented in open top vessels, plunged 3 times
daily and allowed to sit on skins post the completion of primary
ferment for 1 week. The individual wines were then pressed to older
French oak, with only the Cabernet seeing any new French oak to
take the overall oak influence to 18% new. After 12 months elevage in
barrel the blend was put together with the addition of Malbec giving
the wine immense weight and volume and the merlot helping keep
the wine tight and balanced. Both the Cabernet and Malbec
components were the first harvest from our new plantings undertaken
in 2013.

Aging

Cellar for up to 15 years.
