highly regarded wineries, producing vibrant wines of exceptional regional 
character. The Estate is rated as a top ‘Five Red Star’ winery in the Halliday Wine 
Companion. Our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has been awarded the 
prestigious Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, the Max Schubert trophy and has 
scored an incredible 99 points in the Halliday Wine Companion. The Deep Woods 
wines have been awarded 19 Trophies and 56 gold medals since 2016, with the 
current release of our Reserve Chardonnay awarded a stunning 98 points in the 
Halliday Wine Companion. 

These wines are a testament to the highly acclaimed winemaking team, who craft 
memorable and exciting ranges from impeccable fruit sourced across the Estate

Andrew joined Deep Woods Estate as Senior Winemaker in 2017 after nearly a decade of incredible vintage experiences around the world. He began his winemaking career in 2008 after completing his Oenology degree and then focused on making premium wines that reflect their regionality.

Andrew has previously worked in the Adelaide Hills and Yarra Valley, and completed international vintages in Mosel, Germany; Burgundy, France; and Chianti Classico, Italy. He aspires to represent the uniqueness of the Deep Woods Estate site and make characterful, delicious, world-class wines.

Andrew Bretherton

Emma joined the Deep Woods team as a cellar hand in 2015 and was appointed Assistant Winemaker that same year. Emma began her winemaking career in 2011 after completing a Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology at Curtin University. She then gained experience in the United States working for a high-end small-batch producer. In 2017 Emma was appointed Operations Manager.

Emma is also making her name in the local judging scene and has been involved with the Perth Royal Wine Awards since 2016 where she has completed three years as an associate judge and two years as a senior judge. In 2020 she accepted the role of senior judge at the Wine Show of Western Australia.

Emma Gillespie

John has been the Chief Viticulturist since 2002, overseeing the management of the premium vineyards in Western Australia, Tasmania and Victoria, and sourcing fruit from select growers. John’s interest in planting and training young vines is coupled with an ardent focus on sustainability and innovation. He is constantly looking at ways to increase fruit quality to ensure the Group’s winemakers can create the best wines possible. John has completed multiple degrees in viticulture and has an unmatched knowledge of each vineyard site.

John and Julian make a formidable team at Deep Woods Estate and at the same time enjoy a great friendship with their young families.

John Fogarty

Julian is regarded as one of the most talented winemakers in Australia with awards such as James Halliday Winemaker of the Year, Jimmy Watson Trophy winner, Ray Jordan Winemaker of the Year, and a Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year nominee. His impressive career has included vintages in France and Canada, as well as senior winemaking roles in the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and Coonawarra.

Passionate about producing regionally distinctive wines, Julian joined the Deep Woods team in 2011. Under his leadership, the winemaking team has continued to refine and explore the Deep Woods style, culminating in more than 60 trophies and 200 gold medals awarded across major national and international wine shows.

Red Blend

A medium bodied wine bursting with juicy blackberries, cassis, prunes and ripe Damson plums. There is layer of warm mocha spice from oak ageing and soft, firm tannins add a savoury finish and characteristic regional structure.  

White Blend

White

Intense, juicy lemon pith bursts onto the palate alongside fresh green herbs. A crunchy acidity provides balance and freshness, highlighting the grassy, tropical and citrus flavours on the finish.

A very expressive and fragrant bouquet sets the hares running for this intense wine sourced from the self-described jewel in Deep Woods' crown. This is a super-elegant and pure expression of cabernet with a virtually indefinite future. Halliday Wine Companion 2020

Rosé

This Rosé continues a run of excellent vintages, combining great freshness and lightness in a wine that is still complex and satisfying. Julian Langworthy, Chief Winemaker

Expressive flavours of lime curd, grapefruit and passionfruit with a herbaceous finish. Pristine acidity provides freshness and the barrel-ferment proportion adds texture and refinement.

The palate is finely textured and generous, with intense cassis and dark berry flavours enlivened by a hint of salted liquorice and black olive complexity. Silken, perfectly ripe tannins intertwine with an intense array of complex fruit and spice creating a wine of seemingly effortless beauty and length. 

The Reserve Chardonnay marks one of the most successful and contemporary wine styles we have to offer. It is structured and powerful yet beguiling and sophisticated. 

The Hillside Chardonnay focuses on a selection of some of the coolest sites in the Margaret River region producing a wine with great varietal character while maintaining excellent vibrancy and freshness of acidity.

The Reserve Shiraz comes almost entirely from our old vine central Wilyabrup vineyard, planted in 1972. A wine of great poise, power, yet fine detail. 

Awarded 'The Best Rosé' by Ray Jordan in 2021, this is a bright, aromatic and lifted Rosé - a Deep Woods benchmark.

The Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon is a unique expression of the Margaret River wine region – one of the best Cabernet producing areas in the world.
