Nose

Intense aromas of red & black skinned berries & cherries are complemented by aromatic & lifted floral scents of violets & sun ripened stalks

Palate

Medium-bodied, bright & crunchy. An abundance of juicy blue & purple berry fruits with a beguiling mouthfeel that is slippery & moreish

Growing Conditions

An outstanding vintage. The season commenced with a wet start to June when rainfall was 30% above average. From this point onwards, the months dried to below average rainfall & maximum temperatures crept up above the long-term averages. Lower yields, but very high quality

Harvest

The PT15 clone picked in two passes. The first (26%) was hand-picked from the property on 11th & the second (74%) machine-picked and sorted on 12th March 13.7° Bé. The Karridale vineyard is sustainably farmed following organic principles

Bottling

The wine was bottled on 28th January 2021

Winemaking

100% of the hand-picked fruit was whole-bunch fermented (wild & inoculated) in open topped fermenters with the aim of boosting fragrance & spice notes. The machine-picked fruit was sorted, inoculated and went into open topped fermenters. Time on skins ranged between five to eight days

Aging

Nine months maturation in neutral French hogsheads & puncheons which allowed the tannins to soften without introducing overt oak flavours

Appearance

Vivid red with a purple tint

Food Pairing

Pasta with duck ragu
