Nose
Warm and primary bright fruit notes of black currant and mulberry with a perfumed lift of sweet mint, cocoa and freshly rubbed herbs.
Palate
Opulent fruit weight and supple fruit tannins deftly cradled by fine oak flavour and tannins. A mineral and chalky structure enhances palate texture and length.
Growing Conditions
Excellent vintage in the Margaret River region. A warm and dry spring was followed by a summer punctuated with perfectly timed rain events but otherwise low in humidity. The autumn harvest period was dry and protracted with vintage conditions best described as on the warm side of perfect. The resulting red wines have definitive varietal expression, rich fruit power and fine tannins.
Winemaking
Vinification occurred in closed stainless steel fermenters with diligent cap management to extract fine fruit tannin and strong varietal flavour. Selected parcels remained on skins post the fermentation to further enhance the tannin profile while others were pressed at dryness to capture fruit vibrancy. After pressing, each batch is matured separately in order to build a wine history over time. Barrel maturation for 18 months in 40 % new and 60% older, French oak barriques ensures the thorough integration of oak and grape tannins. The wine was blended from a selection of the best batches from the Leston vineyard. After egg white fining and light filtration, the wine was bottled.
Appearance
Dark and dense cherry.
