Nose
Rich aromas of cinnamon & plums with underlying gingerbread sweetness, finished with warm tobacco notes.
Palate
Luscious fruit notes of blackberry coulis & blueberry paired with vanilla. A smokiness then
presents itself for a charred, savoury finish. The wine is well balanced with ripe tannins, acid structure &
length.
Growing Conditions
growing season in the south west of Western Australia was favourable for the production of great wine. After a winter of sufficient rain, the spring to autumn period was continuously warm to hot, dry and characterised by less than average summer precipitation or humidity. An added bonus to the benign harvest conditions was the explosion of native blossom which sated the otherwise grape-loving, resident bird populations. The Margaret River vintage was without significant weather events such as heat spikes or summer rains. Diurnal temperature variations were below average which meant the nights remained warmish. Strong maritime cooling influences and retained soil moisture allowed the vines to maintain healthy canopies until harvest.
Winemaking
Vinification occurred in closed stainless steel fermenters with diligent cap management to extract fine
fruit tannin and strong varietal flavour.
Selected parcels remained on skins post the fermentation to further enhance the tannin profile while others
were pressed at dryness to capture fruit vibrancy.
After pressing, each batch is matured separately in order to build a wine history over time.
Barrel maturation for 18 months in 40 % new and 60% older, French oak barriques ensures the thorough
integration of oak and grape tannins.
The wine had egg white fining & light filtration before bottling.
Appearance
Deep garnet.
