Nose
Mount Barker provides flavours of stone fruit, gooseberry and a refined acidity: Margaret River, palate weight and classic varietal characters of lemon /lime citrus and guava with perfumed hints of elder flower, sweet herbs and black currant.
Palate
Fragrant nose of freshly rubbed sweet herbs, guava, passion fruit and lime zest has an ethereal, estery presence. Juicy yet fine, the palate has lingering stone fruit richness, fresh citrus and a crisp mineral acidity to finish.
Growing Conditions
A warm and dry spring followed by a summer punctuated with perfectly timed rain events, was otherwise low in humidity. The autumn harvest period was dry and protracted with vintage conditions best described as on the warm side of perfect. Our white wines show an abundant and bold array of varietal expressions which are layered and pure. 2011 has delivered Sauvignon Blanc with intense fruit, fine mineral acidity and a hint of ripe, tropical complexity.
Winemaking
Only the finely structured free run juice is used to make Howard Park Sauvignon Blanc. The majority of vineyard batches are cool fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain their regional character and delicate fruit flavours. Select batches are barrel fermented to add complexity,
Appearance
The wine colour is a limpid green.
