Palate

Aromatics of waxed lemons & wet limestone belied by citrus blossoms. On the palate the flavour rolls from a citrus & tight clean acid focus with hints of spring blossom & an underlying minerality providing structure, ending with a slight hint of honeysuckle. These attributes bode well for a lengthy and lip smacking life of this wine, still in its early days.

Growing Conditions

s another exceptional vintage from the premium, southern grape growing regions of Western Australia. Winter rainfall was close to the long term average. The growing and ripening seasons, while largely warm and dry were punctuated with rains and windy conditions that did affect set and subsequent yields in many varieties. Warm, dry weather from late summer to mid-autumn delivered even ripening for the harvest. A mild end to the season allowed all varieties to ripen perfectly with high natural acidity & intense tight flavours.

Winemaking

The fruit upon arrival at the winery was immediately processed to ensure the highest quality juice. Only free run juice, which is tighter and more finely structured as it has no phenolic character, is used for this wine. Most juice batches showed wonderfully restrained Riesling aromatics, fine elegant fruit and great length. We kept 5 individual batches separate which were cool fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain the delicate fruit flavours. Extensive, some say excessive, blending trials were carried out to produce a wine that is very elegant but still very powerful.
