Nose

Fragrant Morello cherries, raspberries, damsons & ripe mulberries, with suggestions of dark chocolate, coffee & vanilla

Palate

Bold flavours of chocolate orange, blackberry & sarsparilla are tempered with pleasantly bitter cherry notes & tart raspberry acidity

Growing Conditions

A challenging vintage due to rain, rain & rain. However, the viticulture team was able to deal very effectively with each problem, through meticulous canopy management & judicious use of organically approved sprays, meaning quality remained strong.

Harvest

Malbec was picked from our original Wilabrup site on 24th March and on the Karridale site on 26th March. A parcel of Tempranillo (10.5% of the blend) was picked on the Karridale site on 9th March. Both vineyards are sustainably farmed following organic principles

Bottling

The wine was bottled on 10th August 2021

Winemaking

One batch was made with whole-bunch ferment or carbonic maceration, for spice & berry brightness. The other batch was open-fermented & hand-plunged for nine days, before pressing & a brief stint in barrel.

Aging

Just under 4 months in neutral barrels

Appearance

Vivid purple/red

Food Pairing

Pizza or lamb with lentil salad & garlic yoghurt
