Nose

The bouquet has a fragrant lift of ripe black fruits with background aromas of violet, spice & vanilla

Palate

Full-bodied, rich, concentrated & generously fruited with great depth of flavour. Spice, berries, cherry & plum notes are framed by ripe, savoury & assertive tannins

Growing Conditions

The season was preceded by a wet winter & spring, the driest November since 1999 - so there were no issues around flowering or fruit set - & then the wettest December since 1996. This was followed by a long, dry Indian summer, with maximum temperatures mirroring the long-term average

Harvest

Hand-picked in two passes on 9th & 11th April from our original dry grown Wilyabrup site. Another parcel was harvested also on 9th April from our Karridale vineyard. Both sites are farmed sustainably following organic practices.

Bottling

The wine was bottled on 21st November 2019

Winemaking

The fruit underwent a four-day cold soak before being hand-plunged in open fermenters & spending ten days on skins. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel

Aging

The wine was matured for fifteen months in French hogsheads with no new oak

Appearance

Dark purple

Food Pairing

Grilled sirloin
