Nose

Up front this wine is full of Guavas. Grapefruit and Gooseberries. It opens up to reveal blackcurrant buds, melon and spice notes.

Palate

This is a fruity wine - all of the flavours from the nose are combined with tropical fruits, passionfruit and melon, and a hint of minerals. It has a lovely texture, with balanced acidity leading to a vibrant finish. Serve well chilled and drink whilst it's young and alive.

Growing Conditions

From the summer rainfall & river flooding in the Swan Valley, to the threat of not ripening any of the red grapes in Margaret River, the 2017 vintage will be remembered as one of the most nerve-racking and anxious seasons. It certainly beats all of the last 10 vintages I've seen at Sandalford. Overall, the whole growing season, from Spring through to Summer / Autumn was much cooler than average. There were no heat extremes this year. This delayed the ripening of all varieties by at least 3 -4 weeks than normal. For the whites, the wines have excellent flavour concentration and structure and were harvested with a good natural acid and sugar balance.

Harvest

The fruit for this wine was picked in the cool night air during March 2017.

Winemaking

Following crushing and pressing the clarified juice was fermented using specially selected yeast strains at very low temperatures to retain the aromatics. Once fermentation was complete the individual parcels of wine were carefully blended together to make this consistent and award winning style.

Appearance

Pale lemon.
