Nose

The nose has a sea spray freshness. Grapefruit, pear, & white nectarine notes are complemented by hints of jasmine, lemon sherbet, smoky hazelnut, nougat & brioche

Palate

Medium-bodied in weight with fleshy stonefruit flavours driving the palate. Fresh lemon/lime acidity provides line & tension; the saline finish is crisp & persistent

Growing Conditions

An outstanding vintage. The season commenced with a wet start to June when rainfall was 30% above average. From here onwards, the months dried to below average rainfall & maximum temperatures crept up above the long-term averages. Lower yields, picked a month earlier than the previous year, but very high quality

Harvest

100% Gingin clone, selectively hand-picked in two picks on 7th & 10th February 2020. Sourced from a single block on our Karridale property in the southern part of Margaret River, which is sustainably farmed following organic principles.

Bottling

After a rigorous barrel selection, the wine was blended, filtered & bottled in January 2021

Winemaking

On arrival at the winery, the fruit was chilled overnight & then gently whole bunch pressed straight to barrel, with no addition of commercial yeast - the fermentation utilised indigenous yeasts. Early lees stirring was carried out & malolactic fermentation was blocked.

Aging

The wine was aged in French barriques, of which 40% were new, for 10 months.

Appearance

Pale straw with a green hue

Roast chicken with sage potatoes
