Nose

A youthful attractive bouquet of cherries, plum, berries & currants enhanced by dried herbs with cinnamon/clove spice accents

Palate

Medium-bodied in weight; bright & engaging raspberry & red currant flavours intertwine with spice & savoury notes driving a long palate framed by ripe, firm tannins

Growing Conditions

A challenging vintage due to rain, rain & rain. However, under our viticulture team’s close watch we avoided any major issues through meticulous canopy management & judicious use of organically approved sprays, meaning quality remained strong

Harvest

Five different clones of Tempranillo were hand-picked in three passes on 9th 16th & 23th March, at Baumés between 12.8 – 13.4° Bé with a parcel of Graciano also picked on 23rd March at 11.0° Bé from our Karridale property which is farmed following organic principles

Bottling

The wine was bottled 16th August 2022

Winemaking

A blend of 95% Tempranillo & 5% Graciano which were co-fermented. Once fermentation was underway, the fruit was hand-plunged two to three times a day in open top barrels. One batch of Tempranillo was put through carbonic maceration. Batches were left between 7-10 days on skins. softening the tannins. MLF was carried out in barrel creating a smoother, rounder mouthfeel. Vegan friendly

Aging

14 months maturation followed in a mix of 300L hogsheads & 500L puncheons – no new oak was used.
